As we know, Google (and other search engines) place a great importance on search relevance; perhaps you‘ve already noticed that Google are filtering and adapting the page results based on individual search patterns… you haven’t …

Well… what this means is, the search results you see in your browser and those I see in mine – for the same keyword search at the same time – can be very different.  Because your preferences, i.e. the type of sites you most frequent is tracked in an effort to provide you with what Google thinks you want to see more of…

Personally I think its nuts… but it is what it is…

Okay… keywords… Here’s my 2 minute tip to get more website traffic! Since Google places such importance on relevance, do you think it would be valuable to be able to know exactly what keywords Google deems relevant in relation to your own keywords selection… and then use this information to get even more targeted website traffic?

How about a regularly updated – pin point list – of related keywords directly from the Google server, and at zero cost?  Fun isn’t it!

Let’s look at how this works… and how you can use it for increasing website traffic…

As an example we’ll say your chosen niche is, the bonsai tree market; you have your site set up to provide all kinds of information on the care/maintenance etc  of bonsai trees, and have monetized to sell related products.

You enter your keyword, bonsai tree care into Google, and what you get back is a list of pages considered most relevant to that search term… but that’s not all, you get the ads of course, but if you scroll right down to the bottom of the page you also get a short list…

This is a list directly from source… Google’s server is telling you exactly what it considers relevant in relation to your keyword.

Do you think this is useful information? You bet!

It also seems the terms listed, Chinese elm bonsai tree care, bonsai plants, indoor bonsai tree care, etc (8 in this case)are also heavily searched on. Remember this is up to date direct information from the Google server…

We all know the statistics surrounding start up business ventures, and it seems that online things are no different. If you’re truly serious about building yourself a stable online business, you have no choice but to invest your time (and yes some money) building that business. And as with any business, effort is always required.

Your goal should be to automate as much of the online process as possible, without compromising on quality or originality. Doing everything by hand is simply outdated, and to be honest not the way the internet is designed.  Large companies like Google don’t look at your website with human eyes and decide how to rank you; that would be impossible, do the math…it’s all automated.

To succeed and earn money online, you need to be automating the process. Use software to do the mundane tasks and free you up to use your time to create more money making websites…and create yourself an outstanding online income.

And then either create a product that fulfills a need within that market, buy resell rights to a product, or become an affiliate for a product in that already thriving market.

The point is this, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel to earn money online. Researching and analyzing what’s already working within your broad area of interest, is to my mind the most practical solution. Whether you follow an established proven online income system, or emulate a top ranked website’s format, with a little time effort and research you will find it’s all quite transparent. Someone has undoubtedly done the ground work for you and discovered what works and what doesn’t. You don’t have to waste your time and money being a pioneer, you simply replicate and improve.

Here’s a quick checklist…

1. Who’s at the top of the search results? Swipe their keywords – Using Firefox, simply, right click, view page source, and look in the head section of the page for the keywords. A quick way to do this is control f, to open a text search box, and simply type in “keywords” to highlight this section.

2. Where are their links coming from? Using a free backlink checking tool, (just Google to find one), you can discover exactly which sites your competitor is building backlinks from and do the same.

3. How is the landing page/website structured? What makes the page compelling to the human reader and how is the page optimized for spiders? Use a free online spider simulator to spy on the page structure and see the page from a Google bots’ perspective.

4. What are the optimized keywords? With the simulator, look at the page title, description H1 tag and URL. Is there a common keyword or phrase, if so that’s what they’re optimizing for and probably what’s bringing in the traffic?

5. Who’s visiting the site? Use Alexa.com to profile their customers, age sex etc… you can use this information to know who you’re talking to when writing your sales copy.

These basic steps will get you thinking in the right direction. Where I feel so many go wrong in trying to earn money online, is thinking that innovation is better than imitation. Sometimes it is and if you have plenty of time and money, then go for it! However the quickest way to success is working with what already works or more importantly what’s proven to work.

Here’s my 10 step plan to deal with whatever you may have been putting off through fear.

1. Identify the fear. The First step is to write it down, name it and shame it… Fear of failure/success/loss?

2. Ask yourself how is this holding me back? What is this fear preventing me from doing or having?

3. Ask yourself If it’s worth giving up your dreams for? What will you do instead if you’re not willing to try?

4. How would you feel if you had already overcome this fear? How would you look? Would you be smiling? Close your eyes for a moment and FEEL the sensation of having already overcome it. Feels good doesn’t it…

5. What is your self talk like? What are the things you say to yourself that keep you from taking that next step? Are they based on fact, or just stuff you’ve always said to yourself? Maybe it’s time to find out.

6.Ask yourself the question what if: “What If I just picked up the phone and called her?” “What If I actually found a way to earn money online and became a success?”

7. What’s the worst case scenario: If you tried and fell flat on your face, how long would it take you to get back on track? probably not that long… many business people have said, they learned more from their failures than from success, but to fail you have to try.

8. Make a plan: List the steps you could take that would lead to your desired outcome. It doesn’t have to be huge; just record the steps 1, 2, 3…

9. Research the alternatives… Have a backup plan… Success and failure are really just two sides of the same coin…. more often it’s the things we don’t do we regret… after all you can always start over… “No matter how far down the wrong road you go you can always turn back…”

10. Take action. The past does not define the future…if you’ve failed to find a way to earn money online, try again.

A successful life is a journey, not a destination. You can benefit from your failures and your successes, some of my funniest stories have come from my failures. The point is to enjoying the ride…

Here’s a bold statement…Your future, financial and otherwise is entirely within your control… Your life, my life and indeed all life is governed by fixed natural laws and principles. These laws never vary, they are exact, universal and in operation at all times in all places.

What has this to do with working online? Everything; I want to encourage you to take a fresh look at the principle of cause and effect… and consider how you can use it in a deliberate fashion to develop your online income, because use it or not the law of cause and effect is and will continue to influence the results you are achieving on a daily basis.

How often do we hear “I just don’t understand,why did this happen?” as if there’s a lottery of events where things just randomly drop on us from a great height without reason… the truth is that the world and everything in it acts and reacts according to exact scientific principles, right down to the smallest particle… It’s all quite predictable, cut your finger and you bleed… not just sometimes, every time. Deprive your body of oxygen and cells die, not just some times, every time.

Predicting and determining events in our daily lives is obviously slightly more complex and the confusion arises due to the variable factors involved. Sometimes, there are many causes contributing to a single effect or many effects may arise from a single cause, however even taking into consideration these seeming random factors, we still have tremendous control over our input and therefore our outcomes.

If you are in the business of creating an online income, it becomes your duty as an entrepreneur to seek to influence and control the causes that make the results (effects) you desire inevitable. If you are looking for a new way to make money or working online to establish a new project, look at what you can do that will make the situation you desire happen almost as a matter of course. Beginning with the desired end result, work your plan backwards determining your course of action in reverse. The term for this approach is reverse engineering.

For example; you’re working to produce an online income of 1,000 per month. This is your goal, (the effect) your desired outcome. You elect to produce this income by promoting your product or service with article marketing. Your research indicates you will sell one item per month from each article published. By dividing the revenue desired by the retail price of your product or service, you will have the exact number of articles needed per month to reach your desired outcome.

There will of course always be variables as discussed earlier. Your research may be flawed or your articles poorly written etc… but the point is that this process is a demonstration of the practice of reverse engineering the principle of cause and effect as a way to make money working online, and I hope a reaffirmation of the fact that intention proceeds outcome. And outcome is the result of cause.

“But I’m here at 7am! Almost every day… I work twice as hard as she does… She has half the clients I do… and still earns twice as much… how?”

This young woman was plainly upset and totally baffled. Clearly she viewed the whole situation as totally unfair… I could feel her anguish and almost leaned across to offer my two pence worth, but thought better of it… Instead I’m putting my thoughts down here and hopefully reach a wider audience.

Of course we can never know the precise circumstances of her dilemma, but I’m willing to bet it has something to do with her mistaking hard work for smart work… as the saying goes “work smarter not harder”… and that’s exactly what I’d like to talk to you about today, working smarter!

Here’s a great example, it’s one of my secret weapons, a principle I’ve used over and over to build my online income, and improve many areas of my life, It’s ” Pareto’s Law”, better known, as the 80/20 rule.

Vilfredo Pareto was an Italian economist born in Italy in 1848, famous for his work on the law of economic distribution, in which he noted that 80% of Italy’s wealth was in the hands of just 20% of the population. His mathematical formula was used to among other things; demonstrate the grossly uneven but predictable division of wealth.

The standard explanation of the rule is that 80% of the output comes from 20% of the input; let’s look at some examples.

80% of the wealth and resources of the planet are controlled by a much smaller percentage.

80% of your income is most likely spent on just a few regular items, i.e. food, rent, travel, and bills.

80% of your regular phone calls are probably made to only 20% of your available contacts.

80% of your company’s profits come from just 20% of your services, products or customers…

Let me just say that’s It’s important not to get to hung up on the numbers, the ratio 80/20 is not an exact science. Both 80 and 20 are purely examples of a scale of uneven balance. Pareto’s Law could just as easily have been the 90/20 rule or the 80/10 rule, and adding up to 100 is not the issue either.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter what numbers are applied, the central point is, there are certain actions we perform, (our 20%) that will account for the greater part of (our 80%), our positive results, our outputs… It’s the minority creating a majority, which is the focal point.

In creating a successful online income or in any area of business or indeed life, the crucial factor is finding our 80/20 ratios and using them to maximize performance. It is therefore vital to invest the time to look through our daily tasks and identify the 20% that create our best results.

Which products, customers or services generate the most online income for our business? Or indeed what tasks in your business bring you the most joy! As you look into where your efforts are bringing the most reward you can begin to trim the fat, so to speak and concentrate your time and efforts on the productive, which is usually where your happiest or where your core skills lie. What is less productive or what you do not enjoy can easily be outsourced.

In summary: Identify the key areas in your life or business that are creating your best results. Allocate more time, thought and effort to these activities, make them daily priorities. Work on eliminating / outsourcing the rest.

If you can do this successfully, you will not only have a more efficient business, you will also be happier in that business, and therefore in life.

It’s my belief that if you concentrate on this area, and even create smaller circles, within that small circle, you can narrow right down and target what’s really important to you… Focus like this gets results…

This small distinction… Call it a secret if you want to, has made all the difference… I’ve used it to among other things; create a truly fantastic online income simply by concentrating more fully on the things I can change!

If you give this technique an honest try, I think you’ll soon discover that by concentrating more fully on the areas of your life where you have most control, you can begin to see great results in a relatively short time, another great technique you can use to grow your online income, or indeed improve any area of your life is the 80/20 rule, the subject of my next article.
